Paris Restaurant Guide

Updated: Aug 1

Here are a few stand out spots I recommend to friends and family going to Paris:

Coffee

  • €€€ - Coutume: great single origin coffee, food isn't worth its price tag in my opinion.

  • €€ - Radiodays: good spot for coffee and a tartine with a levantine twist.

Brunch

  • €€ - Hardware Société: Aussie brunch spot a few steps away from the Sacré Coeur with a view over paris rooftops. Great coffee and food.

  • €€€ - Angelina: classic french hot chocolate in a lovely setting but queuing is very likely and it is pricey.

Lunch

  • €€ - Les Papilles: bistrot serving a lunch menu in sharing platters, traditional french home cooking in a warm and cosy restaurant setting.

  • €€ - Glou: lunch menu using good quality ingredients in modern dishes with inspirations from different world cuisines.

  • € - Aux Artistes: an institution, this bistrot serves a cheap lunch menu with all the traditional french classics in a fun setting.

  • € - Formule at any Boulangerie: most boulangeries offer a cheap menu at lunch where you can choose a sandwhich/quiche with a pâtisserie and a cold drink, great value and lovely to eat in a local park if sunny.

  • € - Miznon Marais: Mediterranean restaurant that serves amazing pittas, they have a few other locations. I highly recommend the ratatouille pitta.

  • Banh Mi Vietnam - A great cheap lunch options, they make amazing banh mi full of flavour and texture in an excellent tradition baguette. Perfect to take to the Jardin du Luxembourg for a lunch in the gardens.

  • €€ - Station F: set on a startup campus, this foodhall offers a choice of restaurants, bars and cafés run by the owners of the big mamma group, great place for a pizza in a fun eclectic setting with mix & match furniture.

  • €€€ - Narro: I recommend it for lunch as they offer a more affordable menu, this is a lovely casual fine dining restaurant offering creative seasonal plates with some asian influences.

  • €€€ - Pétrelle: similar to above, this is more affordable at lunch time. This restaurant has a lovely feel with the renovated building, it maintains it's old charm with a cosy warmth from the colour scheme chosen and wood burning stove. The menu uses seasonal ingredients to create modern french dishes.

Afternoon/Morning Sweet Treat

  • €€ - Benchy: cheesecake is a must try, they also have less budget-friendly but lovely fruit sandos.

  • €€ - Pierre Hermé: if you're after macarons, they would be my recommendation for great quality and choice of flavours. My favourite is the Mogador (milk chocolate and passionfruit), they offer a deal of coffee and 2 macarons in their sit down stores also but I would recommend going to the shop near the Tuileries and eating them while walking through the gardens.

  • €€€ - Angelina: hot chocolate and Mont Blanc ( I recommend sharing one lot between two)

  • €€€ - Café Les Deux Magots: the classic terrasse and french hot chocolate, as seen in movies, it's lovely but very expensive.

  • € - Du pain et des idées: known for having great viennoiseries but there's always a queue.

  • € - Tapisserie: patisserie by the Septime team (n°22 world 50 best restaurants 2022).

  • € - Stop of at any terrasse on the street to people watch and enjoy a quick break. If you want a non alcoholic beverage, I'd recommend getting an espresso, Perrier tranche if you just want sparkling water, or trying a "menthe à l'eau" (mint syrup and water) or "diabolo grenadine" (grenadine i.e. mixed berry syrup and lemonade). A lot of these cafés will do a happy hour in the evening for beer/wine and cocktails if you fancy an alcoholic beverage. And most serve viennoiseries and tartines in the mornings too.

Apéro:

  • € - Au Sauvignon: wine by the glass and cheese/charcuterie tartines using Poilâne bread.

  • €€ - Rosebud: cocktail bar that transports you to the 1920s.

  • There'll be somewhere near where you're staying or having dinner!

Dinner

  • €€€ - L'Ogre: set on a bridge with an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower, I recommend sharing a Côte de boeuf with bone marrow.

  • €€ - Le Relais de L'Entrecôte: no choice on what you eat here, the only questions you'll get asked is how do you like your steak cooked and what wine do you want. The meal consists of a small walnut salad to start followed by steak frites with their secret sauce, dessert is an add on. Don't be scared of the queue, it's a quick one.

  • €€€€ - Anahi: Argentinian steak restaurant serving different cuts of great quality beef in an intimate candle lit room. This is definitely a place for special occasions.

  • €€€€ - Dersou: 6 or 7 course menu with cocktail pairings. Great concept, well executed

  • € - Candelaria: one of my favourite places! Best frozen margaritas ever, accompanied with mexican sharers such as quesadillas, tacos, guacamole etc. There is a speakeasy behind the door at the back if you want to prolong the evening.

  • €€€ - La Table de Colette: sustainable fine dining restaurant offering a set menu at a slightly more reasonable price, cuisine is modern french with heavy influence from the Brittany region where the chef is from.

  • €€ - Clamato: an absolute favourite. Seafood small plates and natural wines in a casual setting, also part of the Septime group. I love going back to this place.

  • €€€ - Clown bar: very inventive small plates in a fun renovated circus bar.

  • € - Bouillon Pigalle/ Bouillon République: a good place to try the french classics, like snails, for a reasonable price.
